Thats what my riding buddy said. I got the 36 inch waist but im sure i will shrink down after a few mouths of MTBing. So im glad it has the pull elastic on both sides and the zip tie clip on the front. I also got a chance to try them when riding and crashing. Theses shorts are long. With shinguards on my legs were untuched when the trees started to whip me. and when i crashed (not like i wanted to) it stood up to the rocks my butt went sliding on.

You could find cheaper MTB shorts out there but its you butt flapping in the wind!

The Bike came in a big cardboard box needs some assemblies. The Bike looks good but the owner's manual is lousy and needs to be improved. Some instructions and pictures in the owner's manual are irrelevant to the real installation. However, it is pretty easy to figure out how to put the modules together. The brake and gear adjustments are the only things that may need you to call the manufacturer, Kent International. Kent International provides nice phone service to help walk you through the assembly. I suggest that they modify the owner's manual with better pictures and clear writing about the installation procedure. Also suggest that they put the owner's manual in PDF in addition to the installation assistance videos on their website for customers to download. Overall, with the price and quality, I am satisfied with the product.

I got this bike to see if I could get back in to the good old sport of mountain biking. This bike was a good encouragement...but I had a few problems with it even after getting it tuned twice.

1) The brakes were never tight enough.
2) The chains were slipping off and hitting the wheels.
3) The wheels were out of line.

But all in all, for the price...I can't really complain...but I'll probably get a new bike as soon as this one falls apart even more.

I got this bike back in early winter. The "manual" that comes with it is nearly useless and contains little, if any model-specific info. Some assembly is required (front wheel, handlebars, pedals) so if you are not comfortable doing mechanical work on bicycles call a friend who is, or take it to a neighborhood bicycle shop. The linear-pull brakes will also need some adjustment.

I assembled the bike and waited for warmer weather. Spring brought riding weather and out I went. Nice ride. No, it's not a $1000. mountain bike, but if you don't need cutting edge stuff you'll be just as happy as the guy on the $1000. bike. This is a very good value for the price. Previously I only had 10-speed racers but always wanted to try a mountain bike. After 15 years without a bicycle ride (yeah, I'm kinda old, switched to motorcycles for a dozen years or so) I took the plunge with this model. I am 5ft-9in tall and this bike fits me just fine. It's not as light as the more expensive bikes but it's not too heavy either (frame is aluminum). The swing-arm pivot joint is suspiciously large, perhaps to overcome a design weakness, but reassuringly strong-looking. At first I thought I would need a more comfortable seat but tilting it one click forward and raising it a bit did the trick. I can live with it for now. Adjust the seat post so that your knee is almost (but not quite) straight when the pedal is at the bottom of your stroke and the seat should be OK. I still may try a more comfy seat, some day.

The wheels on my bike were not quite true, and the linear-pull brakes wanted more advanced tweaking than I was comfortable doing (the return springs needed to be hand-bent for more tension), so I took mine to the local bicycle shop. Spokes were tensioned, wheels trued (tuned to spin perfectly straight, no wobble), and he adjusted the brakes to near perfection while giving the whole thing the once-over. $36. well spent.

On the road I was smiling. The suspension works pretty well and the bike shifts very nicely with no additional adjustments needed. Twist-click-shift. Brakes are more than adequate when properly adjusted. On pavement the knobby tires will sing to you at full speed and talk to you at slower speeds. If you go off road the knobbies will be welcome but if you ride only on pavement you might be happier with smoother tread tires.

I am delighted with the ability to go off-road and ride over most terrain, it's a blast. And I can now laugh at curbs, potholes, and pebbles that used to make me tremble with fear when riding a 10-speed racer with its skinny, vulnerable tires. I never dreamed of riding a 10-speed racer in the woods but now I look for trails to ride on off road, and this bike handles that just fine.

The poor manual is no biggie really. Even a good one would not help much more, really, since even a good one wouldn't cover everything in detail. Bikes are pretty generic in nature. If you want to do your own maintenance then buy a bicycle book with diagrams in it. A chain is a chain, and there are only a few different types of brakes and shifters. The book will show you how to do everything, but still have an expert tune your wheels for you. It probably will only have to be done once so why bother learning how?

If you want a mountain bike, but do not want the cheap kind (kid's bike, one-piece crank, cheap brakes) or the high-end (read: really expensive) kind, I can recommend this Kent Trail Machine model. I like mine a lot.

I started working on my bike a few years ago and picked up a small, cheaper, set of tools at Nashbar. Later, I took an overhaul and wheel building classes at my LBS. They had Park Tools, and I just liked them better. Some were easier to use (e.g., chain tool) and some I would actually use. I wouldn't even touch my bike with the spoke wrench that came with the Nashbar kit. This kit was also missing some of what I wanted. So, I bought this kit, and supplemented with some additional, individually purchased tools (e.g., fourth hand, truing stand). The kit comes with some standard, non-bike, tools that you might not need (screwdrivers, wrenches, and my least favorite, star allen wrenches). I didn't have any decent tools anyway - so I appreciated the regular tools as well. If you have these, additional ones might not improve your life much. It also comes with some items I'd rather go without as "tools" as I already had these items (e.g., lube, grease, patch kits, chain cleaner) - but I suppose they'll get used eventually...hopefully not the patch kit. With these tools, I've been able to work on my bikes, old (80s) and new - overhauling hubs, changing cassettes, overhauling headsets, installing new parts, tuning up, etc. The only problem I've had is when I encountered old freewheels that need some specialized tool to remove. I opted to replace the wheels with something more modern, but they weren't worth saving anyway. Overall, I am happy with the set. They are a bit pricey, but I know I've more than made the money back by maintaining my own bikes, fixing up my own, now nice, $25 commuting bike with used parts, etc.

I'm a bike shop employee of over a decade now, a bike aficionado, and beginning framebuilder. I bought my Park AK-37 kit in 1999, and it's been worth every penny. Could I have just dragged my bike to the shop to work on it with their tools? Sure, but giving myself the ability to work from home was an important step forward in my life as a cyclist.

The AK-37 will provide every tool you need to perform basic maintenance on your bike, and is worth every penny. Thus far, my tools have held up to years of use (and abuse), and I have nothing but praise for the kit. If you're just getting started with setting up your own bicycle workshop, this is an excellent way to go.

Become your own Mechanic, April 6, 2008

If you are going to get serious about using your bike to commute to and from work or doing those long rides on the weekends, then you might just want to begin doing your own maintenance. I purchased this tool set 2 weeks ago and with the help of Park Tool's online repair help, I overhauled both of my bikes. This tool set contains about everything you need, only items missing are some tools required for vintage parts (pre 90's). Save yourself the hassle and expense of going to the LBS because you do not have the tools required to strip any part off of your frame.

I have owned 2 bike racks. One was not worth anything, the other was difficult to use. This is the perfect rack.
1) Five bikes, few others do this.
2) The cradles are adjustable on angle with initial setup. This is the definitive factor! If you've never used a rack try to put bikes of different size and style if you don't have this feature. Just try...
3) The cradles are well designed, padded great, and can accommodate a large range of frame.
4) It folds down which is huge if you use a locking pin.

This is one of the best designed products I have used in a long time.

Love the bike rack. We went over 600 miles one way through NY City and was no problem for the bike rack. Never had one problem the whole trip. After loading and unloading a few times you start to get the hnag of it. Only thing is, if you have a bike with an oversized frame, mountain bike, kids bikes, you will have to go puchase an add on bar for each bike. They attach from handle bar to under seat and then you raise the seat as high as it can go. Once these add on bars were purchased it was a cinch. But we were dead in the water, until we purchased those. The cradles only fit the regular size tubing or slightly larger of bike frame. Loved it though. Thanks Swagman

I needed a 5 bicycle rack that could handle all our family bikes, including our 3 children's (5, 7 and 10 yrs. old) for our yearly vacation. This one seemed to be pretty versatile, not requiring additional bars for most bikes.
While it took some work to make all bikes fit just right (especially the little ones), we made the 4 hour trip to the mountains just fine; no excessive movement (though it does sway a little), no damage to the bicycles (I used pipe insulating foam tube pieces in a couple of spots where bikes rubbed each other) and an overall uneventful trip, even on some not-so-smooth roads. Getting the kids' bikes on was kinda tricky (the littlest one had to travel upside down!) but it worked out fine--I don't think it would have been so with some of the other 2-bar models.
However, if I had to load all 5 bikes on a regular basis I'd probably be looking for a different option. Also, something this rack (and most others too) could use is some kind of reflective finish on the end of the tube... can never be too safe!
